Wildlife reserves in Planet Zoo 2

Wildlife Reserves are conservation environments, not another zoo paddock. Restore a suitable ecosystem, prepare a release group and monitor the animals after release. Franchise and Sandbox can create reserves.

Restore an ecosystem

Use the Ecosystem Brush to designate a type and area. Meet its terrain, nature, water and height requirements to move it from Invalid to Established. Some release groups require Flourishing, which also needs the listed ecosystem roles supplied by animals.

Biodiversity Rating contains Ecosystem Rating and Research Rating. Established or Flourishing ecosystems, pollution removal, invasive-flora removal and species diversity support the first. Observation Platforms, Camera Traps and Acoustic Monitors support the second. The guide does not give a verified 50/50 weighting.

Prepare and release animals

In a zoo, open Animal Trading & Storage, then Release Groups. In a reserve, place a Research Outpost before using Release Groups. Create Release Group, choose an unlocked species and Group Type, then Create. Use Edit Group Members to select suitable animals already in storage.

Check the group requirements before Finalise Release Group: finalisation cannot be undone and these animals cannot return to the zoo. Choose Release to Wildlife Reserve, travel through Planet Hub if needed, select an appropriate Established ecosystem and confirm release. Quick Release instead gives immediate Conservation Credits. Only species with a suitable corresponding reserve can use the reserve flow.

Do predators hunt?

The official guide describes ecosystem roles and wild animal behaviour, but does not explicitly establish a predator-hunting mechanic in the text checked here. That is an unverified specific behaviour, not evidence that hunting is impossible. No prey list or hunting probability is invented.

On 14 October 2026 the official challenge page marks Bred 'n' Water In Progress. Green Green Grassland is a later Release to Wild challenge marked Coming soon for 27 October 2026. It is not the first active challenge.

Yes. Franchise can create connected zoos and Wildlife Reserves. Sandbox also offers reserves.

Do predators hunt in reserves?

Can I bring a finalised release group back?

No. Frontier says Finalise Release Group cannot be undone and those animals cannot return to the zoo.
